thank you guys so much

I’m so happy to tell people about this new
exciting experience
we are excited to have you here um
so let let’s go ahead and kick
or why don’t you just kick us off
or if you want to say jump us off
and let us know the story behind Busy Bee Jumpers
and how this all got started
sure it
it it truly is an amazing
amazing story uh
Busy Bee was founded over 27 years ago
by Jim and Denise Coffee two people I have a um
so much respect for they owned two amazing daycares
started Busy Bee Jumpers
as a secondary business to their daycares
I was able to come on as a delivery driver
very early on in the process with them
and eventually partner with them in 2,009
and grow Busy Bees into the largest bounce house uh
tent uh
obstacle course
inflatable water slide company in the country
um we’ve been nationally recognized for over 10 years
uh for our size and most recently uh
this year of 2025 I started franchising the business
um within 30 days of completing my FDD
I awarded three franchises
to three very close friends of mine
my longtime CFO of 15 years
the CEO of the insurance company that I utilize for my
uh automobile liability and workman’s comp
and then also a friend of mine from high school uh
both him and his wife purchased um
a multi territory deal for me in Rhode Island
wow that you
that’s always a good sign
when people who know it and have seen it
and been with you also want to get into it
so that’s impressive right there
um
just for our listeners can you
it seems like it’s somewhat of a simple business
but maybe I’m wrong
can you explain what your business model is
how it works yeah
yeah that
that is a great question
and that’s the best way I can describe this
it is a simple business
but with our technology and our operations
and our curated inventory package
tied back to our operating platform
that’s what makes this opportunity extremely unique
so if I could rewind things back to Covid in 2020
when unfortunately the world was shut down
I was left with a warehouse full of equipment
sitting there doing nothing
I had ice cream trucks I had mechanical rides
I had trackless trains I had a bunch of inventory
movie screens
that I was trying to appeal to every client
when Covid shut everything down
I reverse engineered the business
I started looking into the numbers
and realized that our simple offerings
our backyard bounce houses
our combo um
obstacle courses our water slides
and our simple tents
tables and chairs had our highest margin
so I dated all of our fancy
extravagant sexy pieces that were actually low margin
and slowing down our business
causing us to have higher insurance premiums
exhausting our workforce working them long
long hours having uh
additional licenses to operate them
I liquidated all of those and doubled down on
the very simplified inventory package that we now uh
offered to our franchisees
and I’ve been able to more than double revenue
in the last 48 months
taking the company from 3 million in 2020
to upwards of 7 million for 2025
wow impressive
yeah that well
there it is the business owner
who looks at his numbers and figures out what
what’s really driving the business uh
versus what’s kind of shiny and
and pretty and everybody thinks that’s what it is
but you went in and hit the numbers and figured it out
so nice job um
so if I’m gonna get into a busy bee jumpers
um it sounds like you’ve cut down some of your revenue
streams to be more specific
can you give me an idea of where my revenue streams
fall exactly
so we have tents tables and chairs
we have obstacle courses
we have bounce houses and water slides
and it sounds very simple
but I think about the the food service business
the chick fil A’s of the world are doing extremely well
with a very limited streamlined menu
and that’s what we’re doing with our product offering
that allows us to train our staff faster
allows us to have stronger safety programs put in place
allows us to have a more detailed marketing plan
that’s direct to the end user
that needs these products
which saves us a lot of money
one of the things that I I
I forgot to mention when
I talked to you about
pivoting the business back in 2020
is by reducing our inventory
down to the simplified inventory package
we’ve actually been able to double our margins
from where we’re operating in pre covid environment
love that margins are important
uh we are gonna get to some of that
hopefully by the end of this
this uh
podcast but um
so the other question I had
I understand what your revenue streams are
who is your client like who are we marketing this to
that is a great question
I can tell you being with this company
uh for now over 23 years
um
I’ve serviced young children for their birthday parties
three four
five and then I’ve serviced high school graduations
college graduations and family reunions after that it
it it’s truly an amazing business
that
when you earn the trust of the people in the community
people want to work with people that they like
they want to work with people they trust and
and I feel that Busy Bee’s blueprint and model
has really established that
we are partners in the community
so we’re reaching out to the school systems
we’re working with the recreation departments
the municipalities police departments
fire departments we’re doing those community events
and by showcasing our equipment at those events
entertaining large um
amounts of children
we then pick up their backyard birthday parties
their end of the school year gatherings
their back to school year gatherings
their holiday
parties and and that’s truly who is our end user
it is really everybody in the community um
as we’re servicing you know
young children
upwards of high school and college graduation events
that’s okay so that makes a lot of sense
you’re really showcasing your things through uh
community events like you said
the the the fire department or through schools
so is it fair to say this is it
are those uh
services when you do it through the community
not through a residential person
are those uh free services that you’re giving to them
just cause you wanna support the community
or are you
is this kind of a B to B play along with a B to C play
that kind of carries underneath that okay
share with that
you just hit the nail on the head so okay
for example recreation departments
they’re gonna have summer long programs
and they need to entertain 30 40
50 some sometimes more double 1 hundred plus children
they allocate money in their budget for activities
whether it be field trips
or having activities come to them
in my pitch as a b to B play is
why worry about putting the children on the bus
you have to take them off campus
you have to bring them somewhere
there’s added liability there
when Busy Bee is gonna deliver right to their camp
we’re gonna set everything up
the morning that the event starts
and then take it away and by us
you know being fully licensed
fully insured
producing that certificate of insurance for them
it again adds that level of trust that they have in us
and what we found is one recreation director tells
the neighboring recreation director tells the uh
chief of the fire department
chief of the police department
and next you know
they’re having a town wide event and who they wanna use
the trusted partner Busy Bee
so it is a B to B play
they’re paying us essentially to market to our end user
the children who go home and tell mom or dad
I had an amazing experience on this water slide
oh my god I was on the obstacle course all day
mom at camp and then the parents say
why don’t I replicate that same experience
for their backyard birthday party
for their end of the school year event
for their back to school year event
for their church event
there are so many different uses for our products
that we’ve discovered over the 27 years
being in business that that
that we have so many different areas of markets
I should say that we tap into
yeah and there’s so many events a year around
like you said I know the churches around me
they have big events during Halloween
and then also during Easter and then all
you know so yeah
I can see so it seems like your customer acquisition
although it can be through SEO
marketing and digital marketing
a lot of it is just kind of for lack of better words
I’ll say being mayor of the town
and getting to know people
and letting them know what you do
so you can service them when they’re ready for it
that is absolutely
a foundational piece of our marketing plan OK
I will tell you as we’ve evolved
you know of course
we’re gonna use our SEO
and we’re constantly adding to that
we’re gonna use our meta ads
Google ads etcetera
but one of the things that we’ve done
that’s really separated us
us in this industry particularly
is we’re finding content creators
so what we feel is through Instagram
and through Facebook and through TikTok
is people love searching for content
so when we partner with these local creators
they will put on an event to create a reel for us
to tag Busy Bee and actually show their experience
and we’re having some reels hit upwards of 500,000
1 million people and
and this for us
has been instrumental in continuing to grow our brand
in our service area
and we truly feel that this well rounded marketing plan
is what is taking Busy Bee Jumpers from a local
household name to a national footprint
wow that that’s a great idea
I love that
you’re using these content creators to basically
advertise for
you guys are really figure out different ways
unique ways to get get out there
uh through other sources um okay
it’s we’ve got jumpy houses
we got obstacle courses we have uh
water parks like a better who do you have employees
do you have 1099
what kind of person do I need to have on my team
in order to execute this yeah
so so at my corporate location for example
I have 13 managers
okay
uh all 13 of those managers have been with me
over 10 years I promoted them from within
they’ve started with me
whether it be in high school or college
I saw something in them that was promising
and I’ve elevated them in the company
I feel personally that they
they are not employees
that we are family and we all work together
we’re finding with our franchisees is
by appointing one manager
whether it be an owner operator
or hiring
that manager is instrumental to hiring some staff
with my corporate location
we have essentially
what I would consider a bell curve of a season
so being in the northeast
we’re somewhat handcuffed by the weather in the spring
around April or may
the weather starts to improve tremendously
and everybody gets outside
baseball season starts The Red Sox
everybody’s very excited June
July August
our busiest months of the year as we push into the fall
that bell curve starts to round down into September
October
and we actually close down right after Thanksgiving
November in those six months that I mentioned
we’re producing upwards of $7 million in revenue
so you can imagine
the lift of employees to produce that amount of work
is tremendous we bring 100 and
over 150
staff in the building each day to execute the work
on the weekends so by having a scheduling manager
a logistical manager a fleet manager
a warehouse manager
an assistant warehouse manager an HR um person
these are all the roles
that are needed from our corporate location
but one of the things that we found with helping
our franchisees is
we have a call center for them
so seven to seven seven days a week
they’re able to have someone answer the phone for them
when they’re out delivering uh
the inflatables
they’re out being that community partner
that mayor of the community
they don’t have to sit by the phone
and wait for it to ring
they have a call center that’s going to support them
nice and um would you say in the high season
are these considered w twos
or they more 1090
nines that are helping you build it out
yeah they’re all W2 employees
gotcha and we we have a specific way of hiring
so typically
what we like to do is hire that staff that is 16
17 18 years old
as I mentioned our training program is very
very uh intense but simplified
we’re able to get them trained in roughly uh
seven to 10 days get them onboarded onto a truck
and out delivering those inflatables
but if we hire them young enough
we’re able to have them work for us for three four
five seasons so that training is
is is reduced uh
tremendously
by hiring the right staff that can come with us
year after year hmm
that makes complete sense
I’ve got three boys
they would and they are always you’re like hey
April’s here
time start looking for your job and
and then they try to carry that job
all the way to the end of October
sometimes early November
and then they wanna get back into it again
in the spring
so I I can see and they would love to do this
I’m certain of it um
so okay so that that’s super helpful understanding
you know who the client
who the client is who the employee is um
let’s face it
bouncy houses have been around for a while
I even had one in my own home
like I said I had three boys in three and a/2 years
I needed them and they were very active
so I went over to Toys R Us
and got myself a little bouncy house um
how what makes you guys different
how are you standing out from the rest
yeah so what I believe is this is a fractured
fragmented market there are a lot of small operators
and I believe from my experience in this industry
that a lot of these community partners
are looking for that legitimate business
that they can truly trust and lean on
Busy Bee fills that gap
what I believe across the country is
we’re going to legitimize this industry
we’re going to structure this industry
through our policies procedures
our operations and our technology
we have a text based
client communication platform that is fantastic
through our driver app
it’s automated by our drivers simply clicking a button
um the end user is getting Etas on delivery for pick up
remaining balance due on their payment
if they need to reschedule
they can communicate through this app
and we have a call center staff that
that’s gonna handle them so what I believe is
in this very fragmented market
is busy bees found a way to structure it
knowing that this I want to say
upwards of 20 operators surrounding me
and in my area in Massachusetts
and we we are doing extremely well
picking up new clients
and new markets that we continue to expand into
this is what has LED me down the franchise path
that I said okay
let’s take this to different states
let’s take this across the country and I’m excited
in 2026 we’ll be opening up in New Hampshire
we’re gonna be opening up in Connecticut
we have other groups um opening up in Texas
uh in in Charleston South Carolina
and now
this is gonna be able to allow us to prove the model
that we’ve spent 27 years building yeah
you build a real professional picture around it
versus kind of that mom and pop
feel I like that me too uh
style you kind of you kind of already alluded to the
the profile of your our uh
you know initial employees and sort of the recruitment
and obviously been very effective in the retention uh
anything
else you’d like to share regarding the training
and the support
that’s gonna be offered to your franchisees
yes so
so we’re experiencing first hand
our first three franchisees are having extreme success
and I truly believe
as we spoke about before the podcast
because I have a personal relationship with them
they’re able to be upfront with me
about the things that are going really well
but also the things that we can improve on
so having 13 managers be with me over 10 years
each one of them has a different skill set
so through our training program
we are daily improving the communication with our
with our franchisees whether it be the technology
whether it be the client communication
whether it be the installation methods
we’re talking with them about everything
from accounts receivable accounts payable
human resource issues okay
they’re adding staff
let’s make sure the onboarding form is done
make sure that that
that they have all their proper paperwork in place
their licenses in place going into the 2026 season
so this added training by my robo bus
really what’s gonna help us grow quickly
with this franchise offering
are there any specific licensing requirements uh
or I’m assuming there’s some
insurance that you encourage
talk to us about that yeah
so so in each state
there’s different requirements for what
like what what uh
definition of license is required to operate
inflatables
but I can tell you in the northeast
they have an amazing program that I think is great
because what that does is
keep the unlicensed operators at bay
they want to have operators like Busy Bee Jumpers
that are fully licensed and insured
that puts their staff through training um programs
safety programs driving programs to
to ensure that there are no accidents on the road
and what we’re seeing is as we push into Connecticut
we’re able to replicate our training
programs for driving and installation
and also help them get their license
with their insurance in place
and with the um
I mean the growth of your
your company how long have you been franchising for
you say what no six
seven months or six or 7 months correct
wow wow
congratulations getting a first generation franchisee
that’s a
you know that’s a big initial hurdle to over overcome
and you got a
you got a good crew there to get started with
so talk to us about when a franchisee on boards
are you open to them moving into multi units
you want to keep them at a single unit
what’s your line of thinking there
that’s a great question
so what we’re finding based on my corporate locations
ideally we’re hoping that franchisees
are going to purchase three to four territories
and that could be through a unit development deal
it doesn’t have to be immediate
we understand it’s a learning curve
whereas
my corporate location services over 10 territories
so for us
we’re looking for the operators that want to grow
want to expand want to replicate
essentially
what busy bees created in the Boston market
and
we believe that three to four territories is the sweet
spot for that
and if they would like to grow larger
and have the capacity to we’re here to help
I like you uh
and uh
you’ve obviously
got a pretty big vision here for your franchise system
anything you’d like to share on that front
yes so
so so
you know
we have met so many great resources across the country
I’ve met operators that have over 500
600 700 locations
and I’m amazed at how people
in the franchise world will share information
just this last year and a half alone
I have Learned so much
meeting so many great people in the industry
I hope to in the next five to 10 years
build out a national footprint that does cover
across the hot markets
when I think about myself in the northeast in Boston
I’d love to travel down the eastern Seaboard
into Florida then ride it out to Texas
and then slide up into California where the weather is
is more conducive to this outside event rental space
versus me and Boston only being open 6 months
I truly believe the system that we created here
and in the success that we had
that as we expand into the warmer climates
that have longer seasons they’re going to experience
even more success than my corporate location
I I think it’s worth noting that you know
a lot of people say to me
but what’s a bounce house franchise
why wouldn’t I start that on my own
in my response always it’s
the first question
I receive from any prospective franchisee is
we have 27 years experience
we we’ve
invested millions of dollars to fine tune our system
with a low startup cost ranging
anywhere from 160 to four hundred thousand dollars
we we give you 27 years of experience
what inflatables to buy what trucks to buy
how to train your employees
how to attract the right employees
and then also how do you find the clients
that want to utilize the products that we’re offering
we’ve put this together in a package for for a very
a relatively low um
start up cost that that we’ve seen a lot of people
extremely interested in that
we’re fielding
upwards of several hundred leads a month right now
um look at this wow
good for you now um
on a franchisee level
you already you know mentioned that
you know your first generation of franchisees
everyone’s coming to this with a different skill set
do you have a certain profile of
what you’re looking for in a business owner yeah
so I think in any business you’re in
we’re we’re customer service oriented right
so we want to leave these
these people are creating memories with their families
with their communities so
it’s hyper important to have that outgoing personality
that they wanna be the face of busy bee jumpers
they wanna be a community partner
they wanna send a text to that client after the event
and thank them for working with them
ask what they can do better
and see if there’s anything we can help with
so I I believe you have to be hardworking
not afraid to work on the weekends
not afraid to work long hours
but also enjoy being a part of something
that’s bigger than just a bounce house rental
I know if my daughter turning 4 next week
I’ve got five inflatables coming to to the house
I’ve got characters I’ve got balloons
this is a very special memory for me
that I won’t be able to get back
it’s her fourth birthday
and it’s only gonna happen once for me
and I put myself in the shoes of our clients
and we execute roughly 15,000 events a year
and I try to treat every single one of them
like it is my own
and I want our partners to feel the same way
now we frequently get the question uh
from anyone that’s considering
investing in a franchise uh
do you permit or can I do this on a semi involved level
so right now what we’re seeing is
the first two of three franchisees are semi involved
by offering a call center to the franchisees
as I mentioned
they’re able to to operate busy be jumper
what I consider a three step phase
secondary income is step one
income replacement is gonna be step 2
and then generational wealth is step 3
I believe that in between three to five years
they could build a generational asset
similar to our corporate location
located just south of Boston
by giving them the resources of that call center
seven to seven seven days a week
they’re able to not miss out on their child’s baseball
or football game they’re able to to fulfill their uh
requirement at work while they
while they make this transition
we we understand that people have lives
we’re not asking them just to uproot that
those lives immediately to become a franchisee
busy being
that’s what a lot of people want to hear
can I can I keep my W2 and get into business ownership
and hang out in that middle spot for a minute
until my business really launches
and then I can maybe step in full time
so it’s nice that you have that offering
yeah
and kind of taking it back to the question of you know
let a lot of perspective franchisees say
why would I franchise a busy bee
why would I buy one of those
it’s because of our proven system
we know that we’re gonna get them successful
we’ve expanded into 13 markets locally around us
and had success in all 13
over the 27 years we’ve been in business
and now what we’re seeing is
by expanding into Cape Cod
into Rhode Island into Worcester
that same success is being replicated
so now we have validation and now we can show other
other potential franchisees
the ones in Connecticut that are coming on
the ones in New Hampshire that listen
this is the blueprint
here’s here’s the steps that we have to follow
here’s what your first 30
60 90 days look like
here’s what your six month plan looks like
here’s what your 12 month plan looks like
that’s able to lay out a roadmap for them
with expectations and benchmarks
I love that you have benchmarks and coaching
uh from onboarding all the way through to the
to into the second year so uh
that’s big um
you’ve already
you’ve also talked a little bit on just cost
the cost to get the doors open
um
can you say it again
what it cost to get your doors open
and what are the big chunks of those those costs
what are they investing in to make that happen
yeah so so so um
our range in in our FTD is 160,000 to 400 top line
the two biggest chunks
are the inventory package of over 40 inflatables tents
tables and chairs as well as your first service vehicle
we want
our franchisees to be proud to be driving around
a wrapped Busy Bee Jumper vehicle
I can’t tell you how many times
I’ve been driving this truck for the last 27 years
and when you see the excitement on the kids faces
when we pull into their school
their backyard and they say busy bees here
the fun is here
we want our franchisees to have that same experience
create that branding in their local markets
so those are the two major
major expenses that actually uh
account for more than half of the uh
the investment for for the franchise
that makes sense um
so some somewhat asset heavy and that’s
that’s good cause
I’m thinking
there could be some tax write offs in there
but like that like that um
and then also on the other side
you also spoke to this
and this is always what our listeners want to hear is
do you have an item 19
financial performance representation
and if you do can you share a little bit about that
yes so before we finalized our FTD
that was hyper important to my CFO Gina
who signed my first franchise agreement on Cape Cod
she wanted to put the financial representation
out there being with me for 15 years
she’s seen the UPS and downs
she’s seen the pain points of Busy Bee
and she’s seen us work tirelessly
to iron out these financial issues
and so then now we have an excellent
excellent excellent end product for our franchisees
so our top three performing territories
are producing upwards of $900,000
in our corporate location
we have a margin just shy of 40%
in our corporate location
and after strip down the royalty fee of 6% a um
call center fee of 3%
our franchisees are potentially left with upward
margin of 30% and and
and this is I think super crucial for them to see okay
great so if I’m investing 200
$250,000 in in our inflatables as well as a truck
I actually have an asset on one side of my books
and this is the potential income that I can
can make from it
how do we move forward that’s the question absolutely
I like those margins 30% is strong after royalty
that’s really strong um alright
what about funding uh
what are you seeing in regards to
cause it is a little bit of a
a heavier load to get in
so what are you seeing right now with that
yeah
so our first three franchisees were all low capitalized
uh
one was able to purchase everything up front with cash
had worked very very hard uh
the other two tapped into uh
home equity lines on their homes
they had equity available chose to go that route
I’ve spoke with a lot of third party lenders
in forming partnerships now we are SBA certified
um perfect
so what we’re seeing is with this not being too
too large of a lift
a lot of people can tap into retirement accounts
their uh
equity in their homes or self fund if
if if uh
the funds are available absolutely
and and for our listeners
that’s something that we help them with when
when we get them introduced to somebody like you
and they really like the brand
we can help them start getting educated
of what their
different funding strategies can possibly be
and then
they can kind of pick what works best for them
so that’s good um
this has been very enjoyable
I learning about this opportunity
I just love how simple it is and how fun it is
and I just yeah
it’s just you bring happy when you walk in the door
I I can imagine that
and it’s so much fun when you have kids and
and even older adults that are having
or older kids that are enjoying it
um
do we miss anything is there anything
else that you want to share about Busy Bee
that stands out yeah
so you know
we are first a first to market concept
we’re the first bounce house operator to yeah
bring on legal bring an FDA to the table
structure our business
and offer support for an industry that
that genuinely needs it um
we have a conversion plan rolling out in the fall
for a bunch of existing operators
what
what I see from a lot of my friends across the country
is they get stuck
they hit these sticky points
they get to a couple hundred thousand dollars
in revenue and they don’t know what to
what next step to take
they’re afraid to take that next step of
investing in their business
because they don’t know what’s on the other side of
of it I’ve been there I’ve done this for 27 years
I’m confident in the inventory
I’m confident in the marketing
we’ve got the operations
and the technology that stands behind it
it’s a highly profitable business
we we’d love to talk to anybody interested in this
what I always think is very unique about the Busy Bee
model versus the fast
casual restaurants that I see everywhere
or the home services businesses
when when I think about the initial investment
to get into a busy franchise
they’re buying a truck they have an asset
they’re buying they have another asset
they’re not building out a space that they’re renting
that if they don’t make it the first six
nine
12 months that they could potentially be in trouble
they have actually
have an asset behind them that they’re purchasing
I like that
so I’d I’d
we like to thank you very much for sharing Sal and uh
great great information all the way around
we do like to close out the podcast
with a very important question
and that is what tips
you obviously have big background here
what tips would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs
this is a great question
and I’m so happy to answer this
because it actually relates back to when I met you guys
at the friends of convention yeah
so it was Thursday night I’ve got a young puppy at home
I’ve got my beautiful daughter
and I didn’t want to leave to go to Disney for a week
I meet a mentor of mine out for dinner
and I’m talking to him at his restaurant
and he’s hyper successful
and I said Frank
I don’t wanna travel
I gotta leave Saturday morning to go to this convention
I don’t know how it’s gonna go for me
you’ve been in business over 40 years
can you give me any advice
cause I don’t wanna leave the puppy
I don’t wanna leave my business
we’re booming right now and he said to me
travel is education
and I thought about it for a minute and he said
let me further explain
I’ve been in the restaurant business for over 40 years
I own 14 different restaurant concepts
to stay fresh I need to travel
I go to Italy I go to Miami
I go to New York I go to Las Vegas
networking is wealth and it’s education
so when I think about going to the franchise convention
I came back with a totally
different outlook than before
I left
I met so many amazing people in the franchise space
and connections that are gonna
that are actually now helping me grow even further
I Learned so much in the week that I was with you guys
that I truly believe that people should network
and travel get outside of your comfort zone
relationships and networking are instrumental to
to anyone’s growth
and it could lead to your next business opportunity
yep well said agreed
